What’s In Spicy Nacho Doritos?
Doritos are a very common snack around the world. After their success with Nacho Cheese-flavored Doritos, they added a spicy alternative. While these delicious chips are enjoyed by many, not many are aware of what’s in these chips. The ingredients are too dissimilar from most corn chips with some added ingredients specifically for the spicy nacho flavor. For a full list of ingredients pulled from the Doritos website, see below.
Ingredients:
Corn, Vegetable Oil (Sunflower, Corn, and/or Canola Oil), Maltodextrin (Made from Corn), Salt, Whey, Monosodium Glutamate, Buttermilk, Romano Cheese (Cow’s Milk, Cheese Cultures, Salt, Enzymes), Corn Starch, Onion Powder, Garlic Powder, Dextrose, Natural and Artificial Flavor, Spices, Lactose, Sodium Caseinate, Artificial Color (Including Yellow 6 Lake, Red 40 Lake, Yellow 6, Red 40, Yellow 5, Blue 1), Citric Acid, Sugar, Lactic Acid, Skim Milk, Disodium Inosinate and Disodium Guanylate.
Are Spicy Nacho Doritos Gluten-Free?
What about Spicy Nacho Dorito’s gluten status? Are these delicious snack chips gluten-free?
The ingredients listed do not contain gluten products. So Spicy Nacho Dorito’s are manufactured without gluten products, but that doesn’t necessarily make them gluten-free. Occasionally there is a threat of cross-contamination in food manufacturing, where some ingredients from the production of neighboring products can get tossed in.
There is also concern about the contents of artificial flavors. Not every ingredient is actually listed as these flavors aren’t specified.
So while Spicy Nacho Doritos are made gluten-free, be cautious of cross-contamination and unspecified ingredients!
Are Spicy Nacho Doritos Healthy?
Determining if a food is healthy or not can be heavily debated, but I think most people would agree that Spicy Nacho and Doritos aren’t healthy food. While they may not cause immediate issues, they are highly processed food that is high in carbs and contain low nutritional value.
So while there may be worse chips to eat, Spicy Nacho Doritos aren’t the healthiest snack. They can be consumed in small portions without any risk but shouldn’t be overeaten.
Are Nacho Cheese Doritos Gluten Free?
What about the original Nacho Doritos, are they gluten-free as well?
The original Nacho Cheese Doritos fall under the same umbrella as their spicy nacho cousin. Nacho Doritos are gluten-free in that they do not contain any gluten in the ingredients. However, there is still a risk of cross-contamination from other foods and you should be cautious when eating them.
Are Spicy Nacho Doritos Dairy Free?
What about dairy content? Are Spicy Nacho Doritos dairy-free?
We mentioned the ingredients list earlier for Spicy Nacho Doritos. According to that ingredients list, Romano Cheese (derived from cow’s milk) is used to make these chips. Because of the use of cow’s milk, Spicy Nacho Doritos are not dairy-free!
So, if you’re lactose intolerant or have some other sensitivity to dairy, I would avoid Spicy Nacho Doritos.
Are Spicy Nacho Doritos Vegan?
I previously brought up the dairy status of Spicy Nacho Doritos and sadly they are not dairy-free. Because they use cow’s milk in their production, this also means that Spicy Nacho Doritos are NOT vegan.
If you’re following a strict vegan diet then you should avoid Spicy Nacho Doritos!
Summary

If you’re vegan or avoiding dairy, then these chips should be avoided as Spicy Nacho Doritos are not vegan or dairy-free!
