Balsamic Onion Scrambled Eggs – Easy Recipe

balsamic scrambled eggs

I’m surprised everyday by the new ways you can cook simple meals or the small additions that make them much more delicious.

Most people already add onions to eggs to spice them up a bit, but have you ever considered balsamic vinegar? I hadn’t but was happy I did. Less then a teaspoon of balsamic vinegar for four eggs adds an enormous amount of taste!

There are other healthy options as well for your morning breakfast. A great example is Marcellina’s Egg White Frittatas! While such a simple ingredient the egg is, there are never ending options on how to cook it!

What else for breakfast?

While I like to eat my balsamic onion eggs with buttered toast, there are other options to add to your plate as well like pancakes! I prefer the healthy option of almond milk pancakes, but to each their own.

Regardless of your extra addons to breakfast, I hope the balsamic onion scrambled eggs are what you wanted out of a meal to start your day!

Easy Homemade M&M Cookies

M&M Cookies

Yes I love the classic chocolate chip cookies, but I’m also in love with M&Ms! So, why not take the normal chocolate chip cookie recipe and simply replace the chocolate chips with some M&Ms?

This recipe is the basic cookie recipe from scratch but with added in M&M’s. It might be slightly different proportions than others, but this recipe is by far my favorite for the perfect textured cookie.

Delicious M&M Cookie Ingredients

The ingredient list probably won’t be surprising for those who have made cookies before. It’s fairly straightforward and these cookies follow similar guidelines as most.

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, soft
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup M&M’s (more or less based on preference)
  • (optional) 1/4 cup chocolate chips

How To Make M&M Cookies

Making M&M cookies is surprisingly easy and as long as the ingredients are measured correctly, you’ll have some amazing and gooey tasting cookies in no time!

First, preheat your oven to 350F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper or spray with baking spray.

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

Using an electric mixer, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar in a separate bowl until fully combined. The consistency is important here and should be slightly fluffy and cohesive. Add in the egg and pure vanilla extract, fully mixing until combined.

On low mixing speed, begin slowly adding in the flour mixture until combined.

Now the best part, begin stirring in the M&Ms into the batter. I don’t put all of them in, only 3/4’s of the total amount and put the rest on the top of the cookie scoop before baking.

Create small balls of dough, just over 1 inch in size. Place the dough balls on the baking sheets, leaving around 1 1/2 inches between each cookie for them to expand. I lightly press the dough on the pan to slightly flatten it. To me, this causes them to cook fairly even but getting a nice and not crunchy under part. Then place the remaining M&Ms on the tops of the dough balls evenly.

Bake the cookies for roughly 8-12 minutes. I would recommend starting at 8 and checking, as it will vary by your oven. For example, my oven takes exactly 10 minutes for my cookies to reach the perfect texture.

Homemade Cookie Making Tips

While this M&M cookie recipe isn’t very complicated, there are plenty of aspects that can be messed up. Too much of one ingredient, improper cooking time, and under/over mixing are all things that could go wrong in baking cookies. I recommend keeping an eye on those things as well as reading some of these helpful cookie baking tips!

Ensure your butter is room temperature

You may find yourself impatient using hard butter or stuck with liquid-like butter. Regardless, those two will lead to less than welcome cookies as the temperature of the butter being mixed will affect how it combines. A room temperature and gooey butter will mix great with the rest of the ingredients, leading to perfect cookie dough.

Set your timer for before the recommended baking time

The recommended baking time for this cookie recipe is 8-12 minutes. I did state earlier it’ best to go with 8 minutes and check on the cookies, as every oven is different. So make sure to keep an eye on your cookies and don’t rely too heavily on a recipe being what’s right for your oven.

Chill your cookie dough

This isn’t technically needed as you can have great cookies without chilling your cookie dough. However, chilled cookie dough is easier to work with and allows the sugar to fully dissolve into the dough. Most people prefer cookies made from chilled dough as it tastes better to them.

BEST Places to Visit in Jordan – 2022 TRAVEL GUIDE

Wadi Rum Jordan

Jordan is a beautiful country with so much history that it can be overwhelming to decide what to see. I’ve narrowed it down to my top 5 recommendations that should fit any travelers’ preferences. Partially to make it easier to see only the best sites, and because usually people don’t have loads of time to travel to every destination on those “top 15” lists. So, the top 5 are…

1. Petra

2. Wadi Rum

3. Dead Sea

4. Aqaba

5. Amman

These sites encompass much of the exciting destinations you could go to in Jordan and are also the most popular. While popularity means more tourists will be there, I notice it also makes it feel a little safer as there are plenty of people around. So overall, these sites are full of history, there’s tons of navigating information on them, and they are probably some of the safest places to visit.

Also, be sure to read the end of the article if you’re curious about miscellaneous travel information to Jordan, such as obtaining visa’s and the best time to travel there!

On to the list!

Petra, Jordan

What is Petra?

Believed to have been inhabited as early as 9,000 BC, Petra is near the cradle of civilization and holds plenty of history from that period. However, the site of Petra itself was built around the 4th century BC as the capital of the Nabatean civilization. The Nabateans were skilled craftsman and were well situated along trade routes which allowed them to prosper so well, despite being in the middle of nowhere.

All this good fortune mixed with talented sculptors, led to it being a must-see destination today for it’s awe-inspiring structures and rich architecture.

Things to see in Petra, Jordan

When most people think of Petra, they picture Al-Khazned. Al-Khaxned is the treasury that stands famously with unique pillars and very intricate designs. It’s also the “temple” that Indian Jones enters in the The Last Crusade, despite the inside not really looking like that.

Map of Petra

But Al-Khazned isn’t the only thing to see at Petra. In fact, Petra is an all-day excursion and there is so much to see that you may be too exhausted to experience it all if you don’t prepare. To show just how many sites there are, see the map below for the sites in Petra. It was after all an entire city, so of course there are plenty of things to see such as the A’Deir, the Nabatean Theatre, and even walking the Siq is an amazing experience.

How Much Does Petra Cost To Visit?

A one-day ticket into Petra costs 50 JD which is roughly $70. This also depends on if you purchase the Jordan Pass, which is sold by Jordan’s Ministry of Tourism and allows access to most sites and saves money on purchasing a visa. I’ll mention that in the extra info at the end of this post.

Wadi Rum, Jordan

Wadi Rum

What is Wadi Rum?

Wadi Rum is the largest valley in Jordan and translated means “Valley of Sand”, not surprising as it’s a desert. It’s also the filming location for the movie The Martian and it’s easy to see why they chose it when you get there. It has a very foreign and an out of this world look to it that is just amazing!

Things to see in Wadi Rum

We started our trip glamping at a small camp in the desert. The camp in itself was a site to see and a wonderful experience.

Aside from just having a nice place to stay, there are also plenty of famous sites around the wadi that are great places to see. We went to Khazali Canyon and climbed through the rock scrambles, walked across the Burdah Rock Bridge, and stopped by Lawrence’s House! Also make sure you find your way to any small rock plateau to watch the sunset. A Wadi Rum sunset is something that I’ve only seen mentioned a few times, but it’s such an amazing site.

What does it cost to visit Wadi Rum?

So, lodging is obviously a cost of staying in Wadi Rum but that is something that should be arranged beforehand. As far as costs to get into the Wadi Rum protected area, it’s 5 JD for international visitors and free for children under 12.

Exploring the Dead Sea

Dead Sea Jordan

What is the Dead Sea?

The Dead Sea is a salt lake that lies on the border of Jordan and Israel. The Dead Sea has a salinity of roughly 34%, making it impossible for plants and animals to live near it, hence its name. While the formation is still debated, it may have once been a part of the Red Sea until it was separated by a land mass in between.

Why to go to the Dead Sea

The Dead Sea is a unique destination and there’s no place like it. Swimming in the salt lake is essentially just floating around as it’s near impossible to sink.

The sea is also frequented because of its positive health effects on human skin and is used as a cleanser. If you wanted to take some home with you don’t worry, there are multiple vendors around the sea that sell package sand/mud that comes from it.

What does it cost to visit the Dead Sea?

Going to the Dead Sea is free like most beaches you’ll find. However, there are private areas around it that you may have to pay for access. But, if you’re looking for a free spot, they do exist and are public property.

Visiting Aqaba Jordan

What is Aqaba?

The only coastal city in Jordan, Aqaba is a popular vacation destination not just for tourists but other Jordanians as well. Even more convenient is that it’s placed near Petra and Wadi Rum, making it a great place to tack onto your trip if you’re visiting the other two.

Things to do in Aqaba

Aqaba is a great place to just relax and enjoy the scenery of the Red Sea. So, if you’re looking for a place to relax and spend some time not walking, hiking, or exploring, then sit by a beach as Aqaba has some great spots.

With such great beaches, Aqaba is also a great place to go snorkeling or diving. There are plenty of options for underwater excursions in the region. If you’re looking more for historical sites, there is the Mamluk castle and the archaeological museum as well.

Amman Jordan

Amman Jordan

What is Amman?

Amman is Jordan’s capital city that is situated in the northern part of the country. It has been occupied since 7,000 BC and because of that has plenty of history to offer in the architecture and outside of the city.

Things to do in Amman

If you’re a history buff, Jebel al-Qala’a is a must-see experience. There is also a plethora of restaurants such as Kan Zaman, Hashem, or the Jabri restaurant. Making it a great place to take in some historical sites, learn of Jordanian culture, and taste delectable Arab cuisine.

Extra Information on Jordan Travel

Visa Information For Jordan Travel

Jordan does require a visa to visit the country and the costs can be dependent on what you plan to do. A single entry visa will cost 40 JD if you only plan on getting a visa to get into the country. However, the Jordan Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities offers a “Jordan Pass” that gives access to many historical sites throughout Jordan and if you purchase the Jordan Pass, the cost of your visa is included in the pass. This is a perfect offer if you plan on visiting places like Petra or other historical sites while in Jordan and the costs of the Jordan Pass can be found here for you to compare.

It’s also recommended to get your visa stamped in your passport before entering the country. While they do offer visa’s on entry to Jordan (except the bridge crossing from Eilat, Israel), it’s better to get them in advance.

What is the Jordan Currency?

The currency for Jordan is the Jordanian Dinar. It’s more valuable than USD so don’t get worried when you get fewer JD for your USD. I also recommend getting plenty in advance and plan for the activities you have in mind.

Language to know when visiting Jordan

The official language of Jordan is Arabic. Thankfully, many of the people we came across could speak decent English, but it helps tremendously to learn the local customs and common phrases in Arabic.

Overall

I hope your trip to Jordan is as exciting and enjoyable as ours was, it was an experience I’ll never forget. If you have any questions or comments please leave them below!

Almond Milk Pancakes Recipe – Homemade [DAIRY FREE]

almond milk pancakes

Many breakfast meals are rich in dairy and to some that’s exactly what they want. But, not everyone want’s that and look for dairy free options. Well here we are, offering an awesome almond milk pancake recipe!

Are you a fan of pancakes? Do you pour way too much syrup on them like me? Well, what about trying them without milk?

The normal recipe for pancakes requires milk to mix them, but sometimes you run out and forget to grab some on your grocery trip (definitely not speaking from experience). So what do you do? Well if you’re me, you use the almond milk you find in the fridge and discover what an amazing and healthy alternative it is! It turns this popular breakfast item into a dairy-free pancake recipe!

Can You Make Pancakes with Almond Milk?

Yes, you can make pancakes with almond milk as a substitute for dairy milk. In fact, the pancakes I made with almond milk were slightly sweeter and a bit more flavorful than those used with animal milk. So on top of being dairy-free pancakes, they may taste better to some who try them.

The ratio of milk to almond milk replacement is roughly 1 to 1 and there’s no need to change things up too much.

Milk Substitute For Pancakes

There are a few different choices for milk substitutes in pancakes. What you choose will depend on your tastes but thankfully there are a few different options depending on what you like.

Some dairy-free milk substitutes for pancakes are:

  1. Almond Milk
  2. Coconut Milk
  3. Soy Milk
  4. Hemp Milk
  5. Oat Milk

Can You Make Pancakes with Coconut Milk?

Absolutely! Another great dairy-free substitute for pancakes is coconut milk. While this recipe uses almond milk, the same could be substituted with coconut milk for a slightly different, but still sweet taste!

Dairy-Free Pancakes

There aren’t any other uses of dairy in this recipe. The only milk used is Almond Milk which is plant-based.

You may be asking, “what about butter?”. Another alternative here is if you plan on coating the pan or would usually use butter in the batter, different kinds of oils can be used as a substitute. The alternative oils you could use include olive oil, canola oil, sunflower oil, or coconut oil.

Egg Free Pancakes?

I do want to clarify these aren’t egg-free pancakes. This means the pancakes are NOT VEGAN and I’m not claiming that at all!

If you want vegan pancakes, simply take the eggs out of this recipe and substitute them with more almond milk or another egg substitute.

Ingredients & Directions

almond milk pancake ingredients

The ingredients are minimal and will take roughly five minutes to combine/mix. Flour, egg, oil, sugar, baking powder, and of course almond milk are all it takes to make dairy-free pancakes!

The first step is mixing together all of these ingredients until the pancake batter is smooth and there are no lumps! (picture below) Depending on how many pancakes you’re mixing, you may want to mix smaller portions together at a time to avoid tiring yourself out from mixing.

almond milk pancake batter

Heat the pan you want to cook with on medium heat with a little oil. Once the oil begins to shimmer, you’re ready to make your almond milk pancakes!

Depending on how big you want your pancakes will determine how much you pour. If you want pancakes like mine (4-5 inches in diameter), I use a 1/3 cup to pour the pancake batter into the pan. If you want a different size, I recommend experimenting a little with the amount your pour. The smaller the pancake, the smaller the pour, and the bigger the pancake, the bigger the pour.

Cook the pancake until it begins to bubble like this. The bubbles shouldn’t be popping and exploding, they should just be visibly forming.

almond milk pancake bubbles

Then flip the pancake and cook for the same amount of time on the other side! On the first flip, your pancakes should look like the one below!

To double-check that they’re ready to flip, I recommend shaking the pan a little from side to side. If the pancake slides around easily, then it’s not sticking to the pan and is safe to flip. Otherwise, if the pancake doesn’t slide around, it may still be sticking to the pan and not fully browned on the bottom. At that point, you risk trying to flip a pancake that is falling apart.

almond milk pancakes cooking

Continue cooking all your pancakes and serve! Repeat the same shaking test to determine if the other side is cooked thoroughly before flipping to check. Once both sides are cooked, you’re ready to serve!

Almond Pancake Toppings

These pancakes won’t naturally be the sweetest pancakes you’ve ever had, but they will be sweeter than dairy milk pancakes. If you want a sweeter taste, I recommend adding at least powdered sugar and maple syrup. What you put on your pancakes is entirely up to you though! Below are a few extra suggestions for pancake toppings!

  • Butter
  • Strawberries
  • Banana
  • Blueberries
  • Powdered sugar
  • Syrup

Frequently Asked Questions

I wanted to add some frequently asked questions for anyone looking to make some of these delicious almond milk pancakes and may want to know more!

Do Almond Milk Pancakes Taste Good?

Absolutely, almond milk pancakes make for just as good pancakes as dairy milk ones, sometimes better. Depending on your personal tastes, you may find the sweet almond milk pancakes to be a better option for breakfast and easier on the gut.

Do You Need Milk To Make Pancakes?

You will need some catalyst to adequately mix pancakes together, but it doesn’t have to be dairy milk. Hence this article, as almond milk or other milk substitutes can be used as a pancake batter mix.

Can I Use Evaporated Milk For Pancakes?

Yes! Evaporated milk can also be used as a milk substitute in pancakes. Simply follow the instructions for the evaporated milk to add the appropriate amount of water to prepare the milk for mixing.

Can I Add Protein To Pancake Mix?

Yes! You can actually make pancakes from protein powder itself. Treat the protein powder like it’s pancake mix and add in the additional ingredients as a ratio of how much extra protein powder was added.

Low FODMAP Vanilla Cupcakes [Homemade]

vanilla cupcakes

Making low FODMAP cupcakes is fairly easy, as basically all of the ingredients in a normal cupcake recipe are low FODMAP or low FODMAP in smaller portions.

The key here is that you shouldn’t overuse the slightly FODMAP ingredients, as it’s important to keep the quantity used low.

Ingredients For Low FODMAP Cupcakes

The ingredients list isn’t very long and is similar to most cupcake recipes.

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract

These are the ingredients for the cupcakes themselves and don’t include any icing to be added. You can make your own homemade icing, or I recommend this video on buttercream icing. If you don’t want to make your own, any cake icing from your local grocery store will do!

How To Make Low FODMAP Vanilla Cupcakes

Making cupcakes is a fairly straightforward process as long as the proportions are followed. Unlike cooking, baking is very sensitive to changes in measurement. Any change or inaccurate measurements will make a huge difference in the outcome and could ruin a batch of cupcakes!

To start, preheat your oven to 350F and it should be ready by the time the batter is finished mixing.

After, in a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients of 1 1/4 cups low-fodmap flour (most wheat flours won’t work here but there are all-purpose flours made to be low-fodmap), 1 1/4 tsp baking powder, and 1/2 tsp salt.

In a separate bowl, using an electric mixer, beat 1/2 cup unsalted butter and 3/4 sugar on medium until it’s a thick and cohesive mixture

Using the same bowl with the butter mixture, add one egg at a time and beat to thoroughly mix. Once mixed, add the 3 tsp of pure vanilla extract and beat to combine.

Once fully combined, begin slowly adding flour to the butter mixture in thirds and alternating by adding in thirds of the buttermilk. Mix thoroughly after each addition until all ingredients are mixed into a smooth batter with no clumps.

Take a cupcake pan and line it with cupcake liners to avoid sticking. Then, fill each cupcake slot with the batter roughly 2/3 full.

Finally, bake for roughly 20 minutes, checking with a toothpick for doneness (the toothpick should stick in and pull out without anything on it). Let cool for 5 to 10 minutes.

Best Tips For Making Cupcakes

Proper Measurement – Baking is an art as much as it is a science. Unlike casual cooking where spices and ingredients can be off a little on measurements, being off in baking can easily turn your dish into something else entirely. Always make sure to measure ingredients precisely!

Room Temperature Ingredients – The ingredients you use shouldn’t be frozen or warm. The temperature is more critical than some people realize as it’ll affect how the ingredients mix and bake together.

Don’t Overmix (or undermix) – There’s a sweet spot in mixing where the texture is perfect for baking, this applies to all things from cupcakes to bread. If you overmix your ingredients, you can risk them becoming too thick and tough. Obviously undermixing isn’t wanted either, as you want all of the ingredients to be thoroughly combined.

Decorating Cupcakes

This recipe is specifically for the cupcakes themselves and doesn’t include making the frosting. There are recommendations for icing at the beginning of this page but if you don’t want to deal with making the icing too, store-bought icing will do just fine.

How you get the icing on the cupcakes is up to you. However, I recommend a nice reusable kit or even disposable bags with whatever tip you want.

Suppose you’re not 100% confident about decorating cupcakes that’s ok. No one goes into cake decorating with some god-given talent to be perfect. I’d recommend watching this short video to get your feet wet and an idea of where to start.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Low FODMAP Buttermilk Substitutes

There are a few buttermilk substitutes but not all are going to be low FODMAP. Thankfully, there are still some options that are low FODMAP for buttermilk replacements.

  • Low lactose or lactose-free milk
  • Plain Kefir

How Long To Bake Cupcakes?

How long cupcakes take to bake depends a lot on the temperature being used. Most recipes (this one included) will use 350F as the cooking temperature as this is low enough to bake slowly so the inside fully bakes without charring the outside. Using 350F as the temperature, I recommend baking cupcakes for around 20 minutes and no longer than 25 minutes maximum.

How Long Do Cupcakes Last?

Most of my cupcakes don’t make it through the day they’re made. However, if you’re planning on storing or have leftover cupcakes, they can be kept for up to 2-3 days depending on how they’re stored, and will still be good to eat.

Do Frosted Cupcakes Need To Be Refrigerated?

Whether or not to refrigerate your frosted cupcakes will depend on the frosting used. Most store-bought and buttercream frostings will be fine to store at room temperature and will stay fresh. However, if you’re using a cream cheese frosting then your cupcakes will have to be refrigerated. Be aware, most dairy products and frostings can go bad quickly and shouldn’t be eaten if left out for more than 2 days.

How To Store Cupcakes With Buttercream Frosting

It’s recommended to store buttercream frosted cupcakes out at room temperature. They can be stored in the fridge, but they’ll quickly dry out and be harder to eat. Keeping the cupcakes stored at room temperature ensures they’ll be soft and gooey still when you go back to finish them off.

Are Cupcakes Halal?

This is obviously not a simple answer as how a cupcake is made depends on the ingredients or where you’re buying them from. The best answer is that they are halal as long as there aren’t any ingredients that are produced from the slaughter of non-halal animal parts and that any extracts used aren’t alcohol-based. So some cupcakes could be halal and some won’t, make sure to check the individual ingredients as they will vary.

Southern Crock Pot Chili Recipe

Southern Crockpot Chili

Tasty Southern Crock Pot Chili Recipe

There were a lot of great things from my childhood and the food I ate left me with tons of great memories. The chili my grandmother would make is one of those and while she usually made it on stove top, I decided to make it in a slow cooker.

It’s not loaded with tons of different ingredients and is fairly simple to make. In fact, it’s pretty quick to make if you decide to make it on stove top since the crock pots longer cooking time is the only reason this recipe will take a while.

Also, if you’re looking for other hearty slow cooker recipes, try our Slow Cooker Beef Stew!

Chili Ingredients

The list of ingredients isn’t that long. One of my favorite things of southern recipes are the use of very few ingredients but always having the right combination for a rich and hearty flavor.

The list includes:

  • 2 lbs Ground Beef
  • 1 Large Onion
  • 2 Garlic Cloves
  • 2 tsp Chili Powder
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Pepper
  • 1 tsp Oregano
  • 1 tsp Cumin
  • 1 (28 oz.) Can Diced Tomatoes (or fresh)
  • 1 (28 oz.) Can Tomato Sauce (or fresh)
  • 2 (12 oz.) Cans Bushes Baked Beans

I use premade diced tomatoes and tomato sauce since it’s easier. However, if you’re inclined to make it from scratch it will taste even better with fresh ingredients. Also, you can use your own beans for the chili but I recommend using Bushes since it adds a southern flavor.

How Slow Cooker Chili Is Made

There are a few different ways to prepare chili and using a slow cooker allows for some ingredients to not be precooked. However, I never risk under cooking ingredients so I start off by thoroughly browning the beef in a pan. While I’m browning the beef, I’ll have a second pan for partially caramelizing the onions with chopped garlic cloves added in.

The reason I cook them separate is to drain a lot of the fat from the beef after it’s been browned, that way I don’t lose any of the flavor from the onion and garlic when it’s added.

After the beef is browned, I mix in the garlic onion mixture into the crockpot. I don’t bother stirring yet as I will add in the rest of the seasonings and ingredients into the crockpot. The reason I season after the beef is browned is the same as why I brown the beef apart from the onion/garlic, to not lose any seasoning when draining the fat.

Once all of the chili ingredients are combined in the crockpot, I stir to thoroughly mix the chili and set the crockpot to cook on high for 3 hours. Occasionally, I’ll stir the chili and check on it because I’m impatient when it comes to food.

Three hours later and the chili will be ready to serve!

What Kind Of Bread To Serve With Chili

Most bread will pair alright with chili, but the most common go to is cornbread! Cornbread offers a sweet, but not too sweet, contrast with hot and hearty chili. Despite growing up in Georgia, I’m not the biggest fan of cornbread and opt for other breads or sides.

Another bread option would be simple buttered rolls. I’m lazy and usually just buy a pack of Hawaiian rolls and call it good, but homemade work just as well!

What To Serve With Chili Besides Cornbread

There are endless options for side dishes you can serve with chili, but not all of them will be that delectable. Thankfully, there are still plenty of options that go incredibly well with chili. Some examples of great sides/combos for chili are:

  • Chips (tortilla)
  • Bread/Breadsticks
  • Tacos (combo)
  • Potato Skins
  • Hot Dogs
  • French Fries
  • Baked Potatoes
  • Grilled Cheese Sandwich
  • Salads

Can This Chili Be Made On Stove Top?

Originally this recipe was made on stovetop, so there’s no reason you can mix all of the ingredients together in a large pot the same way I do for a crockpot. I recommend preparing the beef, onion, and garlic the same way I do though.

The cook time will also vary for this and would only take around 20-25 minutes on a medium low heat, stirring often.

How Long Does Chili Take To Cook On The Stove

Time to cook varies a lot on the heat applied and the equipment used. If you’re planning on cooking your chili on low heat, it could take as long as 50 minutes if it’s in a standard sized pot.

However, if you’re cooking on medium to high heat (not too high), you can expect some cooked chili in as little as 20 minutes.

Finger Foods That Go With Chili

Finger foods are the best sides for chili as they don’t take away from the central part of the meal and offer a small improvement for taste.

My favorite finger food with chili is tortilla chips! They work well as a dipping tool and go just as well crumbled up in the chili. A few other great options are bread and French Fries, although I think French Fries can go with anything.

What Sandwich Goes With Chili

The best sandwich that can go with chili is a simple grilled cheese sandwich. Grilled cheese is nothing complicated and takes no time to make properly, making it the perfect side to cook while you wait for the chili to finish.

Best Chili Toppings

What you add to your chili is entirely up to you. That being said, there are some common chili toppings that are more preferred for how great they go with this hearty meal. Some great options for chili toppings are:

  • Sour Cream
  • Shredded Cheese
  • Breadcrumbs
  • Bacon Crumbles
  • Guacamole
  • Jalapeno
  • Olives
  • Peppers
  • Honey
  • Greek Yogurt
  • Lime Wedges

Dark Red Kidney Beans vs Light Red Kidney Beans

Red kidney beans are very common in chilis and soups for their texture and great taste. Dark red kidney beans are usually bright in color with a thick skin, while light red kidney beans are lighter in color and don’t have as thick of a skin.

While there are small differences in nutritional value between the two kidney beans, they share a lot of similar traits other than their durability. Because of this, the main difference between deciding between the two will be the desired texture you want in your chili or soup. If you want a chewy bean with a rougher texture, then dark red kidney beans should be used. Alternatively, if you want less chewy and an easy to eat texture, then light red kidney beans are perfect.

How To Make Low FODMAP Home Fries

Home fries are a hearty and filling addition to any breakfast. For something as simple as fried potato cubes in some seasoning, it has a surprising impact on the entire meal.

Thankfully, potatoes are low FODMAP and aren’t difficult to cook.

First, we need the ingredients!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs Russet Potatoes – Skinned (optional), washed, and cut into cubes
  • Low FODMAP cooking oil
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/4 tbsp Thyme
  • 1/4 tbsp Paprika
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

The ingredient list isn’t very long and you can easily add extra spices if you want. Personally, I like to add a little more than 1/4 tablespoon of paprika and put around 1/3 tablespoon. However, I didn’t want to over spice it for other people in this recipe so 1/4 will be more than enough for most.

Although this recipe is low FODMAP, if I’m making it without FODMAPs being concerned then I’ll add some garlic to the potatoes as well for extra flavor.

Need help converting measurements in the kitchen? Check out our articles on a Grams to Cups Conversion Table and our Tablespoons to Cups Conversion Chart!

Directions

  • Peel (optional), dice into cubes, and wash the russet potatoes.
  • Prep potatoes by bringing a pot of salted water to a boil and boiling the potato cubes until they are almost tender and drain.
  • Put cooking oil and unsalted butter into medium sized pan and melt over medium heat.
  • Place the potatoes in the pan and season with thyme, paprika, salt, and pepper. Distribute the potato cubes evenly throughout the pan, ensuring as many are touching the pan as possible.
  • Cook until the bottoms begin to crisp and then flip/stir, making sure there are as many new sides of the cubes are touching the pan.
  • Cook until slightly browned and desired consistency is reached.

Best Home Fries Seasoning

You’ll find a lot of different recipes for home fries on the internet. Many recipes you’ll find will have similar ingredients, but there are some surprising spices used in some. I prefer the simple thyme, paprika, salt, and pepper as my spices for home fries. But, you can add whatever you want to your recipe.

Some additional seasonings and ingredients you’ll find in home fries are onions, garlic powder, onion powder, and some even use oregano. Be warned if you’re trying to stay low FODMAP though as some of those ingredients could cause digestion issues.

Prepping Potatoes For Home Fries

There are a few ways to prep potatoes for home fries and by prep I mean partially cook. If you try to simply fry your potatoes, the middles wont adequately cook while the outside will char, giving a weird texture to bite.

The way I prep in this recipe is to slightly boil the potatoes in salted water, cooking until they are almost tender. But, there are faster alternatives that only slightly sacrifice texture. For example, if I’m in a rush, I’ll do everything I did before such as cutting them into cubes and microwave them for a short period of time. I prefer boiling the potatoes, but if I don’t have time and want them made quickly, I’ll microwave.

Best Skillet For Home Fries

I’ll usually use a red copper style pan because I’ve gotten used to it before having a skillet. That being said, it’s more common to use a cast iron skillet to get a good crispy taste for your home fries.

There are a lot of options for pans and skillets, but you don’t need anything complicated or expensive. A great example for a cheap but great skillet is this one made by Lodge. It’s just a personal recommendation though and most skillets and pans will suffice for simple low FODMAP home fries.

15 Low FODMAP Instant Pot Recipes

I love instant pot and crockpot recipes. There’s nothing more satisfying than planning a meal, throwing ingredients into a pot, and just leaving it to cook. It’s always a nice surprise in six or so hours to remember, “oh, that wonderful smell is for dinner”.

These recipes produce the same vibe while also being low FODMAP!

1. Low FODMAP Italian Beef

A delicious and fast recipe for dinner, instant pot Italian beef is a great option if you want something tasty without being complicated. On top of being low FODMAP, this recipe is also keto friendly, gluten free, grain free, dairy free, sugar free, and low carb!

2. Low FODMAP Instant Pot Chicken Cacciatore

A hands off cacciatore recipe is always welcome in my cookbook. The author recommends steamed green beans or broccoli as a side dish to this recipe and I agree with the green beans! But then again, I like green beans as a vegetable with just about any dish.

3. Instant Pot Turmeric Jasmine Rice

Obviously this won’t be the main dish, but I thought it was important to add some side dishes to the list as well. It works out if you’re spending a lot of time on your main dish and want something to set and forget for the side dish. This Jasmine Rice recipe is also very simple with only a few ingredients, making it a great low FODMAP addition to dinner.

4. Instant Pot Shredded BBQ Chicken

I love BBQ chicken and this is a great option even for someone who doesn’t know what FODMAP is. All of the ingredients are considered low FODMAPs, but ensure that whatever BBQ sauce you get is also low FODMAP as that is the only questionable ingredient.

5. Low FODMAP Instant Pot Polenta

Another side dish addition to the list of instant pot low FODMAP! Polenta is made from whole grain cornmeal and an interesting aspect of this dish is that it can be cooked into a loaf and cut into servable pieces!

6. Instant Pot Lemon Chicken

Paleo, Whole30, and low FODMAP, this instant pot lemon chicken checks a lot of boxes as far as diets go. This is definitely a recipe for those with a love of zest as well, since lemon can b fairly strong unless it’s what you’re looking for.

Personally, one of my favorite chicken seasonings is lemon pepper, making this a go to recipe for me.

7. Pumpkin Chicken Chili

Some people wait until the cooler seasons for chili, but it’s always chili season for me! This chili recipe takes a leaner take on it’s protein by using chicken but doesn’t take away any flavor. In fact, it adds quite a bit of new flavor with the pumpkin addition.

On top of the amazing taste, this chili is of course low FODMAP and low-carb! It also only takes a handful of ingredients, so you won’t be spending forever prepping ingredients.

8. Low FODMAP Chicken and Rice

Inspired by the South Asian dish Khichidi, this recipe has an interesting spice profile and will be a surprising taste to say the least. It is obviously low FODMAP, but add to that it’s also gluten free! There are a few ingredients that if you just grabbed them off the shelf, you might not have the low FODMAP option. So, be sure to double check the few ingredients that specifically need the low FODMAP option.

9. Chicken Enchilada Soup

Designed to be made in an instant pot or slow cooker, this chicken enchilada soup is perfect if you’re a lazy cooker like me. It’s full of veggies, and a not so commonly used ingredient by me, tomatillos. The author mentioned these may be harder to find and she recommended the brand La Costena as they offered the canned version.

10. Instant Pot Chicken Noodle Soup

Chicken noodle soup is the perfect ‘under the weather’ food as well as a great meal for cold autumn nights. This recipe features no FODMAP veggies, low FODMAP chicken stock, and low FODMAP egg noodles, ensuring all checkboxes are ticked for being low FODMAP.

11. Low FODMAP Beef Stew

Another great recipe from Fun Without FODMAPS, this time a beef stew! A hearty meal made the easy way with a slow cooker or instant pot. This recipe aims to replace many of the high FODMAP ingredients common to a beef stew and instead use FODMAP friendly ingredients that are still rich in flavor.

12. Potato Salad

I know, this isn’t a main meal/entrée, but I wanted to add some extra stuff too! Potato salad is the perfect extra to add since it’s perfect for so many other dishes or as a bring along for a party platter. This potato salad is low FODMAP, Paleo, and Whole 30 friendly as well!

13. Easy Vegetable Soup

There’s nothing more comfy than a nice vegetable soup, especially if you’re trying to keep your meals on the healthier side. The author has an interesting take on how to cook the different parts of the soup, ensuring the vegetables that require more time to cook, get it so they taste just as good as the rest.

14. Mild Chicken Curry

This one was a surprise to me. I’ve made curry before and love the taste, but never thought to add coconut milk to it. The usual milky ingredient for me is heavy cream, so coconut cream adds a nice twist on a familiar favorite.

15. Low FODMAP Instant Pot Chili

Chili is a great go to for a hefty meal with plenty of protein. This chili isn’t that time consuming and although the ingredient list is medium length, it’s not that bad and all of the stuff can be easily found in most grocery stores.

Is Popcorn Vegan, Gluten-Free, Low Histamine, High in Potassium? – The Answer!

is popcorn vegan

The purpose of this page was created under the original question, is popcorn low in histamine? While that was the main focus, there were numerous other frequently asked questions that came up and are discussed below.

Is Popcorn Low Histamine?

I’ve seen a few alternate views on this but the reality is that popcorn (and corn itself) contains lectins which are known to cause higher levels of histamine production. To put it short, popcorn is not low in histamine.

That doesn’t mean popcorn can’t be enjoyed. Everyone has a different tolerance level to different things. If you’re concerned about the effect of certain foods then you should speak to your doctor and ask if foods such as corn and popcorn will be safe to eat for you.

Is Popcorn Gluten Free?

So what about popcorns gluten-free status? Thankfully this question doesn’t have a complex answer as popcorn and corn are both naturally gluten-free! So they are fairly safe to eat, but there have been proteins found in corn that could cause problems for someone with celiac disease or gluten intolerance.

Is Popcorn Vegan Friendly?

Popcorn in its simplest form is derived from just corn. This is great news for vegans because it means popcorn is vegan-friendly.

However, things get a little complicated as butter and cheese are added. Depending on the brand of popcorn you’re eating, it might not be vegan. The best option you have is to get good at reading ingredient labels and search for any comment about it containing dairy, which will be an instant warning to stay away.

Is Popcorn Keto Friendly?

Popcorn is a common snack and being on a diet may exclude it from your food options. But, if you’re on a keto diet then you can consider a popcorn snack safe! Like most things on a keto diet, you’ll still have to watch your intake.

The number of carbs in the popcorn you buy will vary by brand. Be sure to keep an eye on the carb count because any added butter may increase the number of carbs per serving. Also, the serving size is important to track as you may only be limited to a small portion.

Is Popcorn A Good Source Of Fiber?
